GREATER SUDBURY, Ontario – Over the weekend WestJet commenced its flight service from the Greater Sudbury community. The inaugural arrival occurred on Friday evening at 11 p.m. and the first departure took place to following Saturday morning at 6 a.m. WestJet Encore, WestJet’s regional airline division, will operate a 78 seat, Canadian-made Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft. From now until May 2017, they will operate one daily return flight, and in May will increase service to three daily flights.
The new service is a welcome addition to the community explains Greater Sudbury Airport CEO, Todd Tripp, “As an airport, we want to provide options to the travelling public and the commencement of the WestJet service is evidence of our commitment to continue to work on our customers’ behalf to improve air travel options to and from the Greater Sudbury community.”
WestJet’s optimal schedule offers passengers the greatest opportunity to reach southern Ontario, as well as make connections to the airline’s 150+ destinations worldwide.

The Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation is a not-for-profit, non-share Capital Corporation that manages the Greater Sudbury Airport (YSB). The Greater Sudbury Airport is one of Northern Ontario’s busiest and is currently served by Air Canada, Bearskin Airlines, Porter Airlines, WestJet and Sunwing Airlines. Air Canada and WestJet offer daily flights to and from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, which provide worldwide connections, while Porter Airlines offers daily service to and from downtown’s Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, which connects passengers to various Canadian and U.S. destinations. Regular scheduled flights provided by Bearskin Airlines offer air service to and from many Northeastern Ontario centres. Sunwing Airlines offers flights from Greater Sudbury to various sun destinations from December to March.
